Noronha,Dely; Vicente,Joaquim Júlio; Pinto,Roberto Magalhães.
In this survey 1,500 samples of nematodes, representing 151 species, distributed in 20 superfamilies, parasitizing Brazilian mammals (Artiodactyla, Carnivora, Chiroptera. Edentata, Lagomorpha, Marsupialia, Perissodactyla, Primates, Rodentia) and deposited between 1916-1963 in the CHIOC were studied. Ascocotyle (Phagicola) rara sp. n. (Digenea, Heterophyidae) from Ixobrychus exilis (Aves, Ardeidae) in Brazil Zoologia
Arruda,Vanessa Santos de; Muniz-Pereira,Luís C.; Pinto,Roberto Magalhães.
Ascocotyle (Phagicola) rara sp. n. is described from the intestine of Ixobiyclius exilis (Gmelin, 1789), a Brazilian bittern. The new species is compared with Ascocotyle (Phagicola) angeloi Travassos, 1928 and Ascocotyle (Phagicola) moUieiiisicola (Sogandares-Bernal & Bridgman, 1960); the main distinguishing characters are related to the aspect of the gonotyl that is not perforated in A. (P.) rara sp. n. when compared to A. (P.) mollienisicola and the absence of the crown of spines at the anteriorend in the new species compared withA. (P.) angeloi. This is an important finding, since human infections by Phagicola spp. have been previously reported in Brazil.

Description of Skrjabinodon spinosulus sp. n. (Nematoda, Oxyuroidea, Pharyngodonidae) from the Brazilian lizard Mabuya dorsivittata Cope, 1862 (Scincidae) Zoologia
Vicente,Joaquim Júlio; Vrcibradic,Davor; Rocha,Carlos Frederico D.; Pinto,Roberto Magalhães.
A new species of oxyurid, Skrjabinodon spinosulus, is described, on the basis of samples recovered from Mabuya dorsivittala Cope, 1862 in Brazil. Skrjabinodon spinosulus sp. n. is included in the group in which the males are provided with a spicule. The new species proposed herein, differs from those of the group, by the large number of spines (70-80) on the tail of the females when compared to those (3-48) in the other species. The number of spines is a character of great taxonomic importance in the specific diagnosis of these nematodes. This is the second report of the genus Skrjabinodon Inglis, 1968 in South America.

Helminths of the guinea pig, Cavia porcellus (Linnaeus), in Brazil Zoologia
Pinto,Roberto Magalhães; Gomes,Delir Corrêa; Muniz-Pereira,Luís C.; Noronha,Dely.
Worm burdens were evaluated and compared in two groups of the guinea pig, Cavia poreellus (Linnaeus, 1758): animals of the first group were conventionally maintained in an institutional animal house and those of the second group were openly kept in pet shops in Brazil. Animals from both sources were infected only with the nematode Paraspidodera uncinata (Rudolphi, 1819) Travassos, 1914 (10% of prevalence in guinea pigs from lhe institutional facility and 40% in those animals from the pet shop). Other helminth samples recovered from Brazilian guinea pigs during 52 years and that are deposited in the Helminthological Collection of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (CHIOC) were also analyzed. Ophidascaris durissus sp. nov. (Nematoda Ascarididae) parasitizing Crotalus durissus Linnaeus (Ophidia, Viperidae) in Brazil Zoologia
Panizzutti,Marcia Helena Martins; Santos,Leonilda Correia dos; Vicente,Joaquim Júlio; Muniz-Pereira,Luís Cláudio; Pinto,Roberto Magalhães.
The species Ophidascaris durissus sp. nov. is proposed with basis on specimens recovered from the rattlesnake Crotalus durissus L., 1758 (type host) captured in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil (type locality). By the lack of interlabia, the new species can be compared only to O. natricis Yamaguti, 1935 from Japan and O. freitasi Hoa & Lien, 1970, from Vietnam. However, O. durissus sp. nov. differs from O. natricis mainly by the absence of internal lip papillae, location of the vulvar aperture and length of the spicules; from O. freitasi mostly by the greater number of pre-cloacal and distribution of post-cloacal papillae.

Skrjabinodon heliocostai sp.n. (Nematoda, Pharyngodonidae) parasitizing Mabuya frenata (Cope) (Lacertilia, Scincidae) in Brazil and the reallocation of Skrjabinodon capacyupanquii (Freitas, Vicente & Ibanez) in the genus Thelandros Wedl Zoologia
Vicente,Joaquim J.; Vrcibradic,Davor; Muniz-Pereira,Luis C.; Pinto,Roberto Magalhães.
The present report is related to an oxyurid nematode recovered from a reptilian host, Mabuya frenata (Cope, 1862) and the proposal of Skrjabinodon helicostai sp.n., based mainly on findings referring to the lateral alae, position of excretory pore and vulvar apertures, cuticular spines of the tail and aspect of the eggs. The examination of types of Skrjabinodon capacyupanquii (Freitas, Vicente & Ibanez, 1968) from a Peruvian lizard, indicated the reallocation of this species in the genus Thelandros Wedl., 1862, as T. capacyupanquii comb.n., based on the diameter of the caudal appendage of males and position of the vulvar aperture. The new species described herein represents the first report of a species of the genus Skrjabinodon Inglis, 1968 in...
